ritual and celebration burning

It is said that Yew should never be burned in ritual or celebration as it would attract bad luck, disease and misfortune.

wands and staves

Some use Yews and Staves to mark a circle and protect from disturbing spirits.

Others use them to call the spirits to be close to them and join them.

divination

Dowsers and Diviners like to use Yew rods to locate lost items. The twig is said to jolt when the lost item is nearby.

Some people used to erect totems of Yew to welcome the spirits of ancestors to be present and guide the community. It is thought that planting Yew trees by where fallen people were buried was the predecessor to the Yew totem.
